There was a Preaching-house street in Coleraine in 1897. Are you looking for a particular name?

1897 Coleraine directory has some listings for Preaching-house street but no Barrs there. There is a James Barr, pawnbroker, on Meetinghouse street. Might have more information on Barrs- do you have any idea of names and dates?

Hello
Thanks again have you any idea of names of any churches in that area. The earlierst I have is 1877 when Hugh Barr was born there, the family lived there till at least 1882.

Lots of churches is and around Coleraine. Presbyterian, Reformed Presbyterian, Congregational, Methodist, Church of Ireland, Roman Catholic, etc. all in Coleraine. Do you know what religion your Barrs were?

Have Barr relatives in area but can't remember any named Hugh that time period. If I had more clues I could see if I've anything in my notes.

Hello jcass,

There's some correspondence on Ancestry.com about Barrs in Coleraine. http://boards.ancestry.com.au/localities.britisles.ireland.ldy.general/7584.1.1/mb.ashx

One of the members of the North of Ireland Family History Society is researching Barr of Coleraine www.nifhs.org/memint.htm

The 1880 Directory of Belfast and the Province of Ulster on Mary Lennon's website shows the Churches in Coleraine as well as the locations of some of them ...

Church of Ireland
Killowen Parish Church, Killowen Street
First Presbyterian Church, Meetinghouse Place
Second Presbyterian Church, New Row
Third Presbyterian Church, Terrace Row
Independent Congregational Church, New Row
Baptist Chapel, Meetinghouse Place
Wesleyan Methodist Chapel, Preachinghouse Lane
St. Malachy's Roman Catholic Chapel, Chapel Square
St. John's Roman Catholic Chapel, Killowen Street

The Directory also lists three guys named Barr ...

James Barr, M.D., L.R.C.S., New Row
James Barr, joiner, Brook Street
James Barr, pawn broker, Meetinghouse Street

Have that Barr family tree in case they are the correct family but they actually lived at Curragh which is outside Coleraine.
