1851 Oxfordshire census look up please
« on: Saturday 22 January 05 23:42 GMT (UK) »
I would like look ups for 2 sets of relations please, hope thats ok:

Firstly in the Burford area, possibly in High Street (there in 1871):

Joseph Collis
Mary Ann Collis, born Burford, aged @ 22

maybe with first child.

Would like age and birthplace info for Joseph as I haven't tracked down his family yet (one of my great great grandfathers).

Secondly, his in laws!

James Eldridge
Ann Eldridge

Living in Burford, sorry I don't know address. Would like ages and birthplace info also.

Thank you very much for your kind assistance.

Alison

Sarah (12)

Thanks very much Julie, very kind of you.
Looks like the same Eldridge family, only first wife probably died so he quickly found another wife to look after the children (cynic).  Older girls are probably married off or out to work somewhere.

Found out a bit of scandal very recently about the Collis family above:  The first daughter married a William Mills, had children then died around 40.  Next census he was living with (noted as wife) her sister Ellen!!!   I gather this was actually illegal until the marriage act was changed in 1907!

Thought this might amuse you!

Many thanks again for your time

Alison
