Edwards of Llanfihangel, Wales
« on: Friday 04 July 08 03:59 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace my ggrandmother, Sarah Ann (nee Edwards) born in the Llanfihangel that is north west of Knighton, Wales.  She was born sometime in 1864.  She is believed to be an only child and her father is believed to be a railway engineer.  She married John Parton in Knighton, Wales on October 21, 1894.  All we know is that she comes from Llanfihangel and we think it is the one near Knighton, since she moved there to work.  There are a number of Llanfihangel's in Wales and we're not sure if this is the right one, or the correct name for it. Llanfihangel y ????

Do you have their marraige certificate? If not, it would help you to get it as it would give the name and occupation of both fathers.

John Edward Parton dec qtr 1894 Knighton vol 11b pg 273 with Sarah Ann Edwards on the same page

On the 1901 census, she gives her place of birth as Llangunllo

Church Street, Knighton RG13/5181 folio 14 pg 20
John E Parton head mar 39 baker & confectioner b. Clun, Salop (Shropshire)
Sarah A wife 38 b. Llangunllo, Radnorshire
Lucy G dau 5 b. Knighton, Radnorshire
Dorothy M dau 3 b. Knighton
Cecil son 2 b. Knighton
Florence dau 1 b. Knighton
plus a servant and an assistant

I can't see a Sarah of that sort of age from Llangunllo in an ealier census, there's one with middle initial 'l' and one who is a few years older, probably too old to have 4 children in quick succession. There is a Sarah A born Llanbister though..

1871 Brookside, Knighton RG10/5596 folio 33 pg 6
John Edwards head mar 39 labourer b. Clunbury, Shropshire
Ann wife 41 b. Knighton
William Wellings (no relationship given) 12 b. Knighton
Sarah A Edwards dau 6 b. Llanbister

1881 Sarah is working as a nurse in Knighton RG11/5472 folio 30 pg 9
1891 She's with her parents in Knighton RG12/4582 folio 30 pg 15

this map shows these places aren't so far apart

ps - if you don't where a place is, you can post on the main beginners board or England or Wales general boards. The links boards aren't meant for look-up requests, so will reach a smaller audience.
