Claire,
This is the back of the houses, I would guess they all have at least a Quarter Acre here at the back
and at least 3 Quarter Acre at the front.

More info and photos will come by mail.

James.

This may be of interest to some of you, have attached a map of Addiewell Rows, showing all the street names - Livingston Street, Simpson Street, Graham Street, and of course Faraday Place as well as the rest.  Nothing left now of course apart from Faraday Place.    cheers ... Meg

Hi Cauther Lassie,

This is very interesting indeed :)!  thank you for posting this.....it gives a real idea where Faraday Place fitted into  the jigsaw here,

thank you so much,  not quite where I imagined it to be but nonetheless brilliant to see :D

Hello,

I've never heard of Simpson Rows, being the same as Simpson Street, I thought that Simpson Rows were in Uphall, but could be wrong.  Simpson Street, named after James Young Simpson, all the Addiewell Streets were named after Inventors/Explorers, Stephenson (steam engine) Humphrey Davy (the Davy Lamp), Livingstone (David Livingstone - who was a great friend of James "Paraffin" Young, who owned the Oil Works), Michael Faraday (Chemist) who in his early years worked with Humphrey Davy - etc....

I'll see what I can find on Simpson Rows........  cheers ... Meg

Thanks for this Meg.  I knew that they were registered in West Lothian, but no so familiar with the lay out.  My relatives lived in Simpson Rows and also were oil workers.  They were Irish imigrants.  It seems that they were very poor and most died at an early age.

Kind regards,
Lynda
