i am trying to find info on my ancestor, james mccully craig, born 1855, londonderry.  where would i get a copy of his birth or baptismal records?  does anyone out there have access to the 1901 ireland census for londonderry to see if he shows up there?  any info would be greatly appreciated.

Civil registration of births in Ireland began in 1864 so there will be no birth certificate for James.
To search for church records (if they exist) you need to know the family's religion and where they lived (parish if not actual townland not just the county). If Londonderry here refers to the city then you need to have an idea where the family lived as there are quite a few churches of all denominations there.
The 1901 census has not yet been indexed by name so you need to know the townland or street where someone lived and then look up that particular film.

thank you for that information......if i am on the right track, i believe that his mom and dad, douglas craig and jane mccully, were married in dungiven presbyterian church in 1956.  on the griffiths valuation, there is a douglas craig listed in bovevagh, along with a james mccully who could be the father of jane mccully.  that valuation was done in 1858, i believe.  does any of this info help.  thanks in advance.

hello, From some work which I did some time ago on McCullys I have a Jane McCully born 22 Feb 1836 to Archibald McCully and Margaret  ?  of Dernaflaw in the parish of Bovevagh. I was looking through Bovevagh Presbyterian church records and they do not list a marriage for this Jane.

thanks, kinkerswell---i have found out that jane mccully and douglas craig were married in 1856 in dungiven presbyterian church.  i also found the records on family search.org for two of their children, hannah maria craig (born 1870, dungiven) and john douglas craig (also born dungiven).  if james mccully craig was born in 1855 (before their  marriage), he would mostlikely be baptised also in dungiven.  are any records available from dungiven presbyterian church regarding james mccully craig's birth?

Dungiven Presbyterian Church records don't seem to have been copied by PRONI so would be in local custody (i.e. the minister or Clerk of Session). According to index from Derry Genealogy Centre done years ago baptisms start 1835, marriages 1839.
