Hi Cate and Shirley

Further investigations have led me to believe Mark is more than likely Robert Mark Noble Ruff.  On the shipping papers I have he is listed as "Mark".

Now I have to eat crow here.  The information I had written down next to Susan or Susannah as she actually baptised was is D Ruff death 10/9/1853????

I have today purchased the death certificate for D Ruff with this death date and it is David Ruff.

Information David Ruff, Carpenter, died 10 September 1853, near High Street, Prahran.  Father is listed as Isaac Ruff, Farmer.  It is said he was born Whittlesea (sic) Cambridgeshire, and had been in Victoria for 10 months.  It is also stated he was married 1840 to Elizabeth Andlie(?) at Whittlesea(sic) Cambridgeshire.  Unfortunately it does not have any details of where he was buried and on what date.

Susan Ruff's death certificate states she died 11 May 1868, Orrong Road, Prahran.  Aged 58, Parents unknown.  John Ward, employer of the deceased was the informant.  She was buried 12 May 1868 at St Kilda Cemetery, Victoria.  It states Susan was married but information not known.  It does not list any children.  Here it also has not known.

Does this mean that none of the children were around at the time of her passing and where on earth was Daniel.  Was Daniel alive at the time of Susan's death or did he desert her and return to England as Cate suggests?

More questions than answers at the moment.

Cheers
Judi

Just getting back to some research and wonder if anyone has sorted some of this family out.

I don't know what happened to Daniel Ruff, born abt 1797, married to Ann Noble. I'm wondering if Daniel might have died on arrival and no one knew how to register his death. Has anyone been able to find anything.

I have found a possible death record for Daniel and Ann's son Daniel in 1899, at Parramatta, NSW, Reg No. 6859. I have not ordered certificate.

Also still like to know any info about Robert Mark Noble Ruff, if anyone has found anything.

Also has anyone proved Susan Ruff's death as that being 12 May 1868.
