1841 census look-up for Brighton
« on: Monday 24 January 05 12:08 GMT (UK) »
I know the 1841 census is very difficult to read, but if anyone is looking at it can they let me know of any Leaches whose occupation was a gardener.

I am looking in particular for a Catherine LEACH born around 1831 to 1833 at Brighton, Sussex.   Her father may have been James LEACH. I have details of her marriage to William SMITH at Brighton 1861
Franklin, Maish/Marsh from Dorset then London,Simons/Symonds and varients from Kiddington, Oxfordshire, Hanks from Stonesfield, Leach from Brighton, Smith from Brighton & Henley, Oxfordshire, Fakes/Feakes @ Wells from Suffolk, Lane from Botley & Basingstoke,  Reynolds from Norfolk, Douglass from Bethnal Green, later in Reading and Barnes/Richmond Surrey, Sibley from Hillingon @ Hayes Middx, Tansell @ Watton

On a whim, I had a look on the Sussex marriage index for a possible marriage of catherine's parents and this is the ONLY one, so looks good until something better turns up :)

 From the Sussex Marriage Index:
Brighton, East Sussex,  Date: 23 Jun 1829:
 James LEACH, bach
 Martha BEECHAM, sp botp (B)

Thanks Jane.  This is on the IGI and I do think these are Catherine's parents. Catherine's daughter, Charlotte has the middle name Martha.  The surname BEECHAM may also connect. Charlotte Martha LEACH married John Sibley in Hillingdon. Middx. John Sibley's mother's maiden name was also BEECHAM.
