marriage help- early 1900s
« on: Friday 18 July 08 13:27 BST (UK) »
Trying to find a bit missing in the middle of my family tree without much luck so far.

Sarah ARCHIBALD born 29 Dec.1870 6 Jan.1871, daughter of John & Margaret (Lynd) Archibald married a David Millar according to their grandson. She had two children and then either died in childbirth of shortly after giving birth to a third child who also died. David Millar then left the two surviving children with their Archibald grandparents and was never heard from again.
Children:
1. David MILLAR born 15 Sept.1904.
2. Lavinia/Lavina Millar born 11 Dec.1905 known as 'Cissie.'

Archibald-Millar marriage must have taken place in 1904 or earlier (can't find in County Derry) and Sarah died 1906 or slightly later.
Was told the Millars lived in Belfast area after their marriage. Strange thing is that we have a photograph of the two children (my relatives) and they look very much like my husband's Millar relatives so am wondering if David Millar (father) actually came from Co. Londonderry originally.

Would appreciate if anyone can find the marriage so I can get the date and name of David Millar's father.

Note: Sarah's birthdate changed- 29 Dec.1870 is the birthdate taken from baptismal register but birthdate given as 6 Jan.1871 on birth certificate.

Thanks to both of you. Have made a note on original post re: Sarah's birthdate. Have marriage for Sarah's parents and names for siblings and dates for most of them but still not sure about the ones below:
Jane Archibald born c1868 (IGI entry lists 5 Nov.1868).
John Archibald born 1869.
Ellen Patterson Archibald born 1881
Elizabeth Archibald born 5 Nov.1869 (this submitted record in IGI but don't think it can be correct as Jane born 1868 and John 1869 then Sarah 1870 (hardly room for Elizabeth).
Lizzie Moon Archibald (married 1898 but not sure when she was born).

Sorry Mary- just realised I forgot to answer your question. Don't believe that Sarah Archibald was married previously but anything is possible I suppose. Her children (and grandchildren) knew very little about Sarah and David. In fact, I'm wondering if David Millar's Christian name was really David if the marriage can't be found.
Both David and Cissie moved to Australia in I think 1920s but not sure if they ever needed to get a copy of thie birth certificates before they left or even in later years like for pension perhaps.

You didn't make a mistake- Lynn and Lynd are the same surname. Am wondering if this Elizabeth could possibly be Lizzie Moon Archibald.

Have all the records from Aghadowey Presbyterian Church but thank you for posting them just in case I hadn't seen them.

Moon is a very common surname in Aghadowey area.

I've had no luck finding Sarah's marriage which is why I hoped someone else might have better luck. Even looked for a marriage in Scotland (again) as so many of the family went to Glasgow area.
