James Carey married Phoebe Boys 1803
« on: Monday 21 July 08 12:00 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am trying to connect a James Carey with the Carey's in my tree.  I know he married Phoebe Boys in 1803 in Hooe.

According to a member submitted record on the IGI he is the son of Mary Badcock and John Carey born 1781 but this is not substantiated by any extracted records.

All mary and John's children were baptised in Hooe and I have them all.

Can anyone find the baptism record of James and who his parents were?

Hi Kerry,

There are a couple of trees on a------y which names parents as John and Mary Badcock.

   May be worth a look. :) :) :)

Hi Sue

Trouble is I think they might all be from the one member submitted.  No one has any sources to prove one way or the other.

However Toni* has found an IGI extracted record for a James baptised 1781 in Buxted, Sussex which could be the right one.  It may have been related to the Hooe Careys, hence why he was in that area when he married Phoebe Boys.

Thank you for looking anyway and I'm off to relook at the trees on A******y

I think my theory about him going to relatives may be closer to the truth.  The father of the James in Buxted is William.

John who I thought was James's father has a brother William baptised in 1739 in Hooe.  I wonder whether he is father to James and he went to Buxted.

Hmmm

Hi Sue

No I didn't see the pictures, I don't have full access only to the free bits of the site.

Welcome to Rootschat Trainman  ;D

What are the details of their deaths?

I have just checked the baptism database on the SFHG website and the only James Carey that comes up for baptism between 1760 and 1786 is the son of William of Buxted:

baptised 29 July 1781 at Buxted to William and Mary Carey

So it would seem the member submitted records are probably wrong.  ::)

Unfortunately on the database the Hooe records only go up to 1725 so I can't check the baptism for Phoebe who I suspect was born there.
