1865 Death Certficate Clarification
« on: Friday 25 July 08 03:55 BST (UK) »
I am unsure of what: Cancer 3 - not certified would mean?

I understand the not certified but does anyone know what Cancer 3 would have been specifically back in 1865?

I have tried http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hornbeck/disease.htm but this doesn't cover the 3 part of the cause.

Any links or help would be welcomed.

Just a guess, but maybe it means third-stage ?  Some types of cancer have various stages of the disease.

Could it mean the site of the cancer?  My father and father-in-law both died of different types of cancer, but the cause was "secondary" cancer, area of infection identified, with the primary or main cancer infection not detected.  Maybe primary (1), secondary (2), tertiary (3)?  Have absolutely no idea really, just throwing a guess into the arena for consideration.

Entries sometimes give a reference to a period of time, so it could be three days, weeks, or months etc.
