owey island
« on: Tuesday 29 July 08 23:10 BST (UK) »
Hi need help please trying to find out some information on owey island in the late 1940's and early fifties, this was when my mother and her twin sister stayed on the island from about 1950 to 53 i think !

Their names were Brigid and Mary Lynskey and their parents were Thomas and Frances nee Gallagher also addressed as Fanny Charlie Hurely or Harley

I know my grandmother was a first cousin of Daniel O'donnels mother, and had a mother who's maiden name was Mcgonagle ?

Please help a scotsman find his irish roots, any information welcome.

                          Yours sincerely Sean Samuel Hardie.

Hi thanks for posting this reply.
I was just trying to find out what it was like living on the island at the time my mum lived their in the late 40's early 50's and if   you can tell us of   any links to do with owey.
As i said @ offset it was my gran who was born on owey and raised their before meeting my grandad who was a mayo man which is where the Lynskey bit  comes in.
My mother still has relatives in Burton Port whom i have meet on the rare occasion but i think most of the relatives are down in Mayo.
Also thanks for the info on the name and i assume you don't stay on the island now ?
My mother was not born on the island but said  she went to school on owey and an adjacent island ! She also mentions a burn running near the           house where she retreived water for the family(sounds like hard work )
Thanks again for replying to the post any info would be more than welcome
                                           Cheers Sean.
