Peninsula Medal Question
« on: Thursday 31 July 08 17:32 BST (UK) »
My G.G.G.G. Grandad George Neisham served with the 94th foot regiment.

I just found the medal rolls on find my past. Is there anyone here who can decipher what is says in the 'Particulars of clasps' column at the end?

I see he was awarded 3 clasps.

I know next to nothing about the Peninsular War/Campaign. Can anyone point me in the direction of somewhere/something to read.

Many Thanks

TRacey

Looks like Nivelle O.J.
try this site
http://www.coinarchives.com/w/results.php?results=100&search=infant

it mentions Nivelle in there under number 26, so its some kind of campaign i think.

Hi Tracey

Here is a link to a site showing the medal - http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/dept/coins/collection/watson/page231.html. It was not issued until 1848 and the man had to be alive in 1848 and apply for it. The 94th were sent to Ireland after Toulouse and were disbanded in 1818 in Belfast. They were re-formed in 1823.

I have been very rude and not said thank you for this or replieed until now. I'm learning more about the subject and got a bit absorbed.

You are correct about the medals as I had it confirmed by the 94th/Connaught Rangers Museum.

Turns out that the medal was auctioned in London in 1950 so there is a good chance it is being well looked after by a private collector (I hope)

There may also be some service records at Kew aparently which surprised me, which has gone on my to do list!

Thanks everyone, its all starting to make sense!
