have been trying to find them in 1861  ???

On 1851 census - the entries below Henry anf family also look like Aris -Alfred and Sarah with several children.
Then there are Mears - John and Sarah aged 62 yrs and 64 yrs with a son John aged 4 yrs  :o but there is a Mary Ann Mears on next entry.
The Bailys seem to be next

Hi there

we have been researching our family and have found that they mostly resided in caravans on Epsom Downs, the 1st record being Sarah Parker (nee Wilson born Farnham 1822), she shows up on the 1871 census with her 4 children who were Andrew, James, Job and Frederick, we are convinced that Sarah is the same sarah Wilson married to a Mark Parker born 1819 of Ash in Surrey in 1849 although Mark seems to disappear on all census records apart from being shown as the Father of the boys, in looking for these we did find a Mark Parker married to Alice Ayres and we think he could have been the Son of Mark and Sarah, he was born approx 1844 about 5 years before heir marraige ut records are not always accurate, it would make sense as the family tradition is to name the 1st born after the Father or Mother and there is no sign of Mark on the 1871 census as he probably would have flown the nest by then,

see stuff below i have gleaned on Mark and Alice

I have a tree on the Parker and Wilson side going back to Mark born 1787 and Elizabeth Parker born 1790, both born in Buckland, Surrey,  i assume they married in approx. 1818, son Mark was born in Ash in 1819, Sarah Wilson born Farnham 1822, they married 1849 in Ash
Sarah born 1822, Father John Wilson born 1790 Farnham, Mother Elizabeth, no info on her

Johns Father was another John and Mother Martha, possibly Matha Mary, born approx. 1768

we know the family decamped each year from Epsom Downs to the Hop fields in Kent as my Grandfather Frederick Parker was born in Ashstead and Great Great Uncle Job Parker was born Wimbledon but christened in Tudesley in Kent,

Farnham was also a major hop picking area so this may be the connection

I am a bit baffled as to the Buckland connection, i got the info from www.familysearch.org what throws me off is that Buckland was a very old Romany name and i wonder if this has been confused in translation.

There is also another Mark in the family, born 1874 in Southall / Colnbrook, so were a few of my older ancestors, was this on the Romany route?

baffled of Surrey

Neil

Hello Neil,

Did your Frederick Parker descend from Henry Parker and Violetta Bowers?

My Grandfather was Rupert Parker (born 1900), son of Henry, Grandson of Henry and Violetta.

Regards,

Jim
