I have census records of Graingers living in Frimley, Surrey,

William Grainger, B1810 Old Basing, married to Diane Parker B 1807 Preston Candover

They were married about 1827, one of their children Mathias Grainger was born in Tadley in 1828
i have attached a copy of the 1871 census showing William Grainger in Frimley

i have at last found out the roots of Mark Parker, i have his baptism record from Ashford in Middlesex in 1841, funny thing is there is nothing in BMD

I know that his parents were my GG grandparents, Mark and Sarah Parker

Mark born 1819 Ash Common to travelling chimney sweep Mark Parker and his wife Elizabeth, they were living in a caravan at Longerend farm, Ash

I cannot find any record of Mark or Elizabeths births, i did find Elizabeth in the 1851 census living in Frimley next door to her daughter Dinah grainger (nee Parker), she died the same year, her place of birth is Unknown

Sarah and Mark or their son Mark dont turn up in any census returns until 1871, by this time Marlk senoir had died in 1866 in Epsom

Sarah was born in Frensham, Surrey in 1821 to John and Sarah Wilson, John was a "Chair Bottomer" from East Acton

Mark junior turns up in every census from 1871 to 1911 either lving in Cheam or sometimes on Epsom Common, with wife Alice and loads of kids, they had 11, 2 of which died in infancy

Mark and Alice were married in Claygate in 1865

the only other record i have of Mark Parker senior is at his daughter Matildas wedding in Barking in the 1850's, she married Samson Hoadley from a travellers family which originally came from Leicester

I have a tree for the Parkers going back to the late 1700's if anyone is interested
i have a very interesting piece from a Surrey newspaper which tells of the death of sarah from a binge drinking session, the headline is "warning to all drunkards", quite a thing from in 1882 i should think, it tells how she was taken home from the pub in Frimley on a hand cart by her daughter and left in a chair where they found her in the morning

I note that you say that some of your Parkers married into the Carey family. I'd be interested to hear about these Careys as some of my Draper family in Beds/Bucks/Middlesex used Carey as an alias. I therefore collect references to both, just in case.

Curiously, I've also found Drapers in the same general area occasionally using the name Parker.

And finally, I picked up a note from the Gypsy Collections at Liverpool University many years back that claimed that Palmer was an alias sometimes used by the Penfold/Pinfold family.

Hi there

the only record i have of Carey's marrying into the Parkers that i know is Annie Carey, born 1887 Bisley, Surrey

Married my Great Uncle Joseph Parker

they are in the 1911 Census, living on Chobham Common in a tent

Joe later sold wood from a house in Bagshot

i did notice that there always seemed to be Carey's, Mathews and Penfold families living nearby whenever i did find the very elusive travelling Parkers

Hi Neil..

You have mark and Alice Mark and Alice marrying in Claygate in 1865

Was Alice an Ayres? If so what do you have on her father. Was it Henry/Joseph Ayres.

Do you know who Marks brothers were? Possibly Henry Noah John and James.

This is the info I have been given by other parker researchers. Just wondered if it's correct. There's so many Parkers it's almost as bad as looking for Smiths.

Definitely Henry Ayres as the father of the bride

Alice Ayres was born in about 1845 at Hadlow near Tunbridge wells in kent

Thanks for that - So Alice looks to be the daughter of Henry and Olive Ayres.

Although the 1851 census has her as born in Kent Bessel age 12.

If that is correct then I believe she is the sister to my gr/gr grandmother Louisa Ayres who married John James (this is my fathers family).

If your Mark (who married Alice) had a brother Henry then I have  a second link because Henry may be the one who married Vileta which would make him my gr/gr/grandfather on my mothers side.

Have you seen the Dixon family tree on Ancestry for the Ayres connection?

i havent seen the Dixon tree, will have peep at it

I have never found Marks seniors brother Henry although i do have records of his other brothers and sisters, Frederick, James, Job and Matilda

i have some good stuff on Sarah and Mark if you let me have your email, newspaper cuttings, original baptisms and a marriage certificate together with census records for 1871 and 1881, Mark died in Epsom in 1866 but no sign of him living with Sarah at this time, i found him as a witness to his daughter Matildas wedding in the early 1860's in Barking

i cant believe how many hits this subject has had
