Thanks Jen,

Does that mean that each male descendant of each generation would be able to use a slightly modified version of the arms or would it just go down the line of the firstborn male?

Just re-read that - would female descendants be able to use them too?

Regards Bean

Hello again Bean

To show an example here are some distinct differences:

http://www.heraldique-europeenne.org/Regions/France/Colbert.htm

It is my take that arms inherited incorporate the female line also

You may also find these sites of use to you:

Hi Chris,

You're very talented!!! ;D ;D ;D

Out of interest i do have a description of arms a James Davies was entitled to,
if i post a description would it be possible for you to see if there is a picture?
He is listed as Davies (Moor Court, co Hereford; as borne by James Davies, Esq. of that place, a magistrate for the county).

Hi Bean

Here goes with an explanation: (fingers crossed)

It is the combined arms of Davies with Powell

You have a shield divided into 4 parts (clockwise 1 & 2 on top 3 and 4 on bottom)

1st and 4th quarter on a red background is a Golden (or = gold) Griffin Sergent (standing up - see picture) - These are the arms of Davies

2nd and 3rd quarter white background (ar=white) is a Black (sable=black) Lion Rampant (see picture) - These are the arms of Powell

The fesse engrailed is a wavy line (gu = red) looks a bit like waves on sea going around the outside of shield.

The crest is a golden Griffin Sergent

Will try to add some pictures as soon as I have made them small enough

This is how the shield would have looked
