canning town fire station
« on: Monday 04 August 08 19:37 BST (UK) »
Having a lot of trouble finding out about Canning Town Fire Station in 1880's onwards.  My ancestor was in charge of the horses.  Have tried all the usual sources - records seem to have disappeared.
Any help or advice would be gratefully received.

I assume that the "usual sources" include the LFB records centre ?

Yes tried them and other fire stations to see if they know what has happened to the records, tried the local Councils, records office etc.  Told that when the fire station closed all the records were transfered to somewhere else and they don't know where.  Thanks anyway :)

Hi

At least if you were told they were transferred you can assume they will be archived.. you just need to find where ... is there a local history centre/ society that might have knowledge of the records? I'm in NZ so have no knowledge of the area, though have OH interested in fire memorabilia and collecting etc.. a lot of knowledge from an interested person could be gained from the Fire Brigade Museum perhaps ... if you haven't tried there...
