US Church record Lookup please
« on: Thursday 07 August 08 18:25 BST (UK) »
Is there anyone who could look up a Church Record for the birth of Amelia Margaret Coleman born in Philadelaphia, Pensylvannia, USA. I have found the US 1850 Census which suggests she was probably born about January or February of 1850. Her father's name was John Coleman and her mother was Sarah (maiden name Cross). :)

Think you will probably have to have the name of the church for someone to check for records as there is no central index and there are so many churches in Philadelphia. Have you checked www.familysearch.org in case there's a baptism listed there?
P.S. children not always baptised as babies, some children never baptised and some baptisms can be missing from registers.

I have found out that her father was buried (August 1850) in Lafayette Cemetery which was in Federal between 9-10th Sts, Philadelphia, Pensylvannia. Does this help to narrow down the area Amelia which may have been born/christened?

Burials in Lafayette Cemetery might have covered a fairly broad area.
There are so many churches in Philadelphia that you need to know the family's religion and I suspect a fairly good idea of where they lived.

Thanks again. I'm sure he would have been Church of England as he and his wife were both born in England. I have recently got hold of the 1850 US census on the LDS website but unfortunately I can't read the name of the ward properly, I think it is Locast Ward but I'm not sure. Does this help at all .... fingers crossed it does!

Yes, looks like Locust Ward.
This Philadelphia site might help although I couldn't get all the links to work:
