Murison/Kinnear from Montrose
« on: Sunday 11 April 04 05:31 BST (UK) »
Researching my family from Montrose. David MURISON b1824c married Amelia KINNEAR. The family left for the California Goldfields where David died/was murdered in Ringold, 1856. Amelia returned with the family. My Gt grandfather was William Kinnear MURISON who sang under the name of William Campbell for the Tron church in Edinburgh. My grandmother Martha Jane MURISON born Edinburgh 1879, married John Thomas SWEETLAND in Lambeth in 1897.

I have an Isabella Curtis Kinnear in my family tree. I believe she sailed from Liverpool to Nova Scotia, Canada about the 1840's or 50's. I believe her father was John D. Kinnear from Inverarity, County Angus, Scotland. She had a sister Amelia. I have photo's, one for each of them. They were taken in Liverpool. Other names in the family of John D. Kinnear were Alfred and William. There is confusion at this point in time as to when this family came to Canada. One source has John born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada. Perhaps Isabella and Amelia came to Canada and were only related to him. There is also confusion in the name Curtis. I have heard it said that she was adopted by a Curtis family. In this case she may have came to Canada as a teenager or young adult. I know this is a needle in a haystack however this is all the information I have. There are not many other Kinnear's in Nova Scotia, so if you know of anyone with people from here I would be pleased to know of them.

Hi thanks for the reply. My Amelia's father was William. She was only in the USA for a while and ended her years in Montrose, Scotland.

Thanks
Shirley

I would like you to see the photograph of Amelia. Her sister Isabella married into my family long ago. They resided in Baie Verte, New Brunswick, Canada. I tried to attach this before but will try again. Will not attach. It's a 72 KB JPEG. Try me at *

Hi Shirley,
I'm researching the the Beaton family....My great, great grandfather Alexander Beaton's second wife Elizabeth Davidson was the daughter of Margaret Murison (born 29 Apr 1782 in Cruden) and James Davidson.   Unfortunately, I have come to a dead-end researching Margaret's family....Can you help me out???

Hi Amcquaid if you go to www.familysearch.org, then to "Search" then to "International Genealogical Index" (on the list on the left), you will find Elizabeth's birth entry in 1805 at least. I will look up Margaret's birth at the Mormon library when I visit on friday.

Regards
Shirley

Hi I found Margaret Murison's birth registration on the Scottish/Aberdeen surname index to christenings (official records):-

29 April 1786 (not 1782) at Cruden, father:  Alexander Murison and mother: Elizabeth Henderson.

Elizabeth's Davidson's birth in 1805 is on the IGI index at www.familysearch.org.

My Murisons are from Aberdeen and Montrose and I have an Alexander who was my Gt Gt Gt grandfather!
