Orkney 1881 Manson

I'm taking advantage of the free time on Lost Cousins to update names.

Need 1881 Orkney census for William Manson about 72 yo, and his wife Margaret who was maybe 2-3 yrs older.

Here is what family looked like in 1861 in Deepdale, Stromness:

Pam and Falkyrn,

Thank you both very much for doing this.  It is going to take me a bit to wrap my head around it since it raises a lot of questions.  I didn't consider that they would go back to Aberdeen from Orkney.

I know the whole young family was in Pitsligo in 1841; heard years ago that they first moved to "Glebe of Birsay" in Orkney, but haven't found them in 1851; find them 1861 in Stromness as shown.

I hadn't followed any of his children except John who is my GG GF (shown in your last message), and have traced all his kids.

The two occurrences of the Burnett name are interesting since GG GF John's son Christopher traveled to Australia with an Alexander Burnett in 1889 (Chris. drowned off Queensland in 1896 (have detailed info).


The 1871 is a welcome bonus.  Reckon I will have to start tracing their other children with all this intriguing info.

Hi Pam,

Sorry I didn't specify this, but if not too much trouble, may I get the Volume/Registration number, Enumeration District #, and Page # for William in Aberdeen in 1881?  I need this for Lost Cousins.

I've spent much of today looking at Burnett children (Eliza Manson m'd Arthur Burnett and had 10-11 kids).  John England Wilson is the son (possibly illeg.)  of Christina Manson and Robert Wilson (which would explain her having maiden name in 1871.

John's middle name, England, is intriguing:  William's wife was Margaret Shand.  It appears that her parents were Robert Shand and Jane England.
