1871 Census - Jonah Fossey - COMPLETED WITH VERY MANY THANKS TO KARENLEE
« on: Tuesday 26 August 08 01:24 BST (UK) »
Could someone please do a check of the 1871 census for a Jonah Fossey.  According to the IGI, when he married in Arlesey in September 1871 he was 20 years old and his father's name was Daniel.  I can't find him on 1881 census - the nearest I have found is a James Fossey married to a Mary Ann but it says they were both born Shillington.  I know his wife (Mary Ann Johnson) was born Arlesey.  I am wondering what he gives as his place of birth on an earlier census.

If anyone can help it would be most appreciated.

With many thanks.

Zephyr

Hi Zephyr

A Jonah FOSSEY appears on the 1861 Census with father Daniel and mother Sarah, birthplace Arlsey.  Did you want details from this Census or do you already have it?

Hello Karen

The 1861 details would be great, thank you.  At least I now know there is such a person - I couldn't find Jonah's birth on freebmd so wasn't sure whether the transcription on the IGI was correct or not!

Thank you very much for your offer of 1861 census details of the family.  It is much appreciated.

Hello Karenlee

Thank you very much indeed for all that information.  It proves that there was definitely a Jonah Johnson, at least before 1881!  I shall have to have another look on the 1881 census under Forsey in case the enumerator made a mistake with the spelling.

Like you, I have never seen all the girls listed first before - wonders never cease!!!

Many thanks again for all your help - this is a new branch of the family for me so all that census information is much appreciated.

With very best wishes.

Hi

I can find Daniel and Sarah on the 1881, but not Jonah yet.  There is a Jonah in Yorkshire, but his birthdate is out and he's unmarried, so I have discounted him as a possible.

Will keep looking

Cheers

Hello Karenlee

Jonah seems to have disappeared on the 1881 census.  I have been on 'family'search' looking at their 1881 census.  The nearest I have found is a James Fossey with wife Mary Ann (right ages) but their birthplace is given as Shillington, Bedford.  I have had a look at my road map and Shillington is not far from Arlesey so maybe Jonah changed his name ???

I hope you don't mind me asking but, is there any chance you can check the 1891 or 1901 censuses to see if Jonah reappears on them?

A mystery as to where he has gone!!

With best wishes.
