childer thornton
« on: Thursday 28 August 08 10:55 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for the death of Margaret Roberts, born 1779, who was living in Childer Thornton on the 1851 census. She's missing from the 1861 census so presumably died in between.

Which parish would that be under? On the Free BMD there's only Wirral mentioned and on the Cheshire BMD there are a few Margaret Roberts. Where would I look on the Cheshire Parish record Project?

Thanks for any advice.

Think that came under Wirral then, (see list of registration districts here, click on Cheshire and then Wirral to see places covered http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/  )
but on the Cheshirebmd site http://www.cheshirebmd.org.uk/  a quick look shows a possible, and certs can be ordered through the site - you can ask them to check known details before buying the cert:

ROBERTS   Margaret   77   Eastham   Cheshire West   1855

You could also contact the register office and ask them to check details:

The Register Office, Town Hall, Mortimer Street, Birkenhead, CH41 5EU.

This link tells you the progress made on the Cheshire parish register project: http://www.csc.liv.ac.uk/~cprdb/Live/v3.3/progress.html#tra

Many thanks Barbara. That looks like my Margaret age wise.
I'll do as you suggest and ask for checking details.
Thanks also for the links.

Hi Andy,

That reference I gave was for the Wirral register office as given on genuki, as at first French had mentioned the deaths on freebmd in that registration district:

Deaths Sep 1855 Wirral    8a   224     Roberts    Margaret
Deaths Dec 1855  Wirral    8a   245        Roberts    Margaret

I later amended the post giving the Cheshire West death details, without giving the Cheshire West register office, so thank you for clarifying that

Barbara  :)

I've checked on Cheshire BMD and the Margaret Roberts who died in Dec 1855 was only 34 so it seems that the Margaret in the September is mine. I've been able to download an order form and they accept cards which is a must for me being abroad.

Thanks again for the help.
