I saw this non-story as well. Suitcase addresses were very common at the time so that the groom or bride could establish the necessary residence in that parish. I have them in my family.
Southern or Southan [Hereford , Monmouthshire & Glos], Jenkins, Meredith and Morgan [Monmouthshire and Glos.], Murrill, Damary, Damry, Ray, Lawrence [all Middx. & London], Nethway from Kenn or Yatton. Also Riley and Lyons in South Africa and Riley from St. Helena.

Same with my gg grandparents - same address given on MC.

However, the census was taken a few weeks later and reveals them at the same address, now married of course, but with, er, their 2 year old son .....  ;D

Ms Spears aside. What really interested me was this putting of the Metropolitan Archives on Ancestry - what records exactly? Have I missed something?

Crumbs! she should be related to some of my ag labs :o.  I've got more ladies rushing up the aisle than I can count, not to mention the ones who either never made it at all, or were a little er(between 6months and 4 years) late in reaching the alter  ;D

Was it something to do with the long dark nights in deepest Sussex I wonder? because my husbands family from the East End all seemed to be very 'proper'.  I can only think of one or two at most who had the baby before the marriage.

Hi Carole, you need to read the whole article ~ especially from ~
"
Quote
The online archive - a joint project with Ancestry.co.uk - will include parish registers from more than 10,000 churches, containing records of baptisms, marriages and burials dating from the 1530s. Poor law documents, listing the inhabitants of workhouses, will also be included along with London school admissions and lists of convicts imported to the colonies.

Theres more after that, sounds good, if they ever pull it off ~ could be my grandchildren researching by the time it happens methinks :(
