MEDCALF
« on: Tuesday 16 September 08 11:47 BST (UK) »
I am attempting to compile a database/tree of MEDCALF family groups from Suffolk, Herts, Essex. Cambs and Middlessex.  I have entered various families and hopefully at some point some of them will link up.  I am not of the belief that MEDCALF came from Metcalfe and from Yorkshire.  I believe it is possible MEDCALF came from Huguenot's that settled in Suffolk and gradually moved down the eastern side of the country.

An excellent idea as so many Medcalf researchers have hit a brickwall in the 1700 and there (hopefully) will be a link up with other families somewhere, somehow.

I'm more than happy to add my MEDCALF families to the database in the hope that we can break down a brickwall or two. I hope that others will do the same - even a small tree of a couple of names will help.

Thanks for doing this Yorkie  ;) - I'm sure a lot of people will benefit.

Thanks Yorkie,

My MEDCALF family Suffolk roots have been impossible to verify. I am happy to contribute.

Hi Kate, can you give me your earliest generations, as many as you want to give and I will enter them.

National Archives have Will of Jacob Medcalf or Medcalfe, Butcher of Bocking, Essex  15 December 1738

Will written:  1734, Jan 3
Codicil:       1738, Nov 23
Proved:        1738, Dec 15

Mentioned in the Will:

my loving wife, Sarah Medcalf

my daughters Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary and Martha Medcalf
.... on their several and respective ages of twenty one years

my son, Abraham Medcalf   [unmarried ??]

my several daughters Anne, Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary and Martha

[presumably Anne is married ?]

Codicil:

whereas in my said will I have given to my daughter Sarah  .....
I having upon her intermarriage already given her the sum of sixty pounds ....

[Sarah marries 1734 - 1738 ?]

Bocking, St Mary have several Medcalf(e) Baptisms, Marriages & Burials at this time.
