I think Pandasmum is in midlands, and Im even further south.

Are you in and around Sunderland, unfindable?

I did look at records office in Sunderland last time I visited in Summer but that was for another part of the family.

Judging from Pandasmum's comments she is William Golightly relative, where as I descend from his sister, Jane. Both point to a George Golightly c1872/75.

On my Nan's birth certificate, father is George and mother has Ruth Ward (maiden name) so at least that answers the first part, but like Pandas mum, then gets super confusing as seems to be several avenues to go down next and not one seems clear.

Even marriage certificate between George and Ruth is spurious, as one previously suggested seems to have a different spouse Gillogley vs Golightly, which I guess could be an error? I am going to order it anyway and see what turns up.

Absolutely! I’ve been going over a couple of old threads from 2004 and 2018, both hold information relevant to two of my family names

Hi, have just received notification that someone has replied to this message which I'd forgotten about. I did send for my grandfather's birth certificate and found I had entirely the wrong family! I have now been able to trace my Golightly family back to c1675, thanks to a small fortune in sending for various certificates, the Bishop of Durham's transcripts and a visit to the Weardale museum.
