Enumeration district maps?
« on: Saturday 20 September 08 17:35 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a specific address in the 1901 Census, but when I get through to the district, I find that in this area there are 24 different districts. Each district has a long description of the roads covered. What I am looking for is a map indicating in which of the Enumeration District a certain road appears. Any ideas to save me hours of searching?

sadly, no such facility exists .....

a work-around:-

1. Use the Government 1901 census to locate the street by the 'Address Search' option...

http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/   - make a note of the Ecclesiastical Parish and Ward names.

2. Go (back) into Ancestry - those 24 Enumeration Districts will be in Ecclesiastical parish and ward within parish order    ...

3. Click on each ED descriptor page and scan for E.Parish and Ward - when you find such a district, then its worth deciphering the street route that the chap took....

RG18 The series consists of five accumulations of printed maps with manuscript additions showing registrar's districts and sub-districts, at the time of various population census during the period 1861 to 1921.
Maps forming this series can be used to identify the enumerators' district in the case of hamlets and small centres of population, which do not appear in the printed indexes to the census.
