Williams- Old family Merioneth?
« on: Monday 22 September 08 18:53 BST (UK) »
I have been informed that my husbands family tree is recorded in a welsh book of old families of Caernarfonshire and Merionethshire, as I dont speak welsh I was wondering if anyone could help.
The family Williams lived at Gardd Llygad Y Dydd, Beddgelert around the early 1800
If anyone has any info on this family tree I would be very grateful

Many Thanks
Pam

Hi Pam  :)

It sounds like the 'Griffiths Pedigrees'

The Griffith Pedigrees  is a large book compiled by J. E Griffith of Bangor Univerisity in 1914. The title is Pedigrees of Anglesey and Caernarvonshire Families with their collateral branches in Denbighshire, Merionethshire and other parts. It has been Reprinted twice by Bridge Books, Wrexham.

ISBN 1-872424-63-5

It was £60 when I bought it a few years ago.

See this thread:

I'll check but I think you might have to work further back to get a real link in.

      Hi Pam,

You can find the modern Gardd Llygad y Dydd on Google; I've had a

five-minute search in Griffith's Pedigrees, mentioned by Gadget, without finding

anything relevant. Gadget may do better. The book you need could, of course,

be another one.

             Best of luck,

                      Pinot

Hi Pam,

The book you need is indeed T. Ceiri Griffith's book, entitled (in Welsh) The pedigrees of some families of the old counties of Caernarfonshire, Merionethshire and Montgomeryshire (Achau rhai o deuluoedd hen Siroedd Caernarfon, Meirionnydd a Threfaldwyn), published by the author 2003, ISBN 0 9546367 0 8.
Several lines from the Williams family of around 1800 have survived to the present age, with and without the original surname; if you wish I can send you details of a particular line or type up everything relevant; a scan is beyond me at the moment.

                       Cheers,

                              Pinot

Hi Pinot

I also have a Williams family which I have traced back to Griffith Williams born circa 1786 in Dolwyddelan who married an Ellinor Roberts from Llanrwst (first chil born around 1812) and wonder if by any chance this family is mentioned in the book. If it is I will of course purchase the book.

Thanks

Hi Pam,
Thomas, Jane's father, was one of the seven children of John Williams, Gardd Llygad y Dydd(married 7-2-1817 to Elizabeth, bapt 30-1-1791, dtr of Wm Williams, B.A. Oxon d.1834 and Jane, died 1815). John also one of seven children, was the son of William Parry, Gardd Llygad y Dydd, bapt. 4-9-1740, died 28-9-1827, married 1773 Jane Thomas, d.1803, dtr of Thomas ap Richard and Catherine. Wm Parry's will exists. Most of the family's BMDs were recorded at Beddgelert chuch.
                 Hope this is some help,

                          Pinot
