GALL-HUNT marriage, Leverington, 1792
« on: Wednesday 24 September 08 14:14 BST (UK) »
Related to my previous request for help re GALL baptisms, I've pieced together some more info from the CFHS website and the Wisbech and the Fens website which makes a family tree on Ancestry seem credible.

That tree has a marriage between a Jonathan Gall (b. 1770 it says) and an Elizabeth Hunt, in Leverington, 23 May 1792.

Doesn't sound like something you'd invent, but if anyone could just check the Parish Register to confirm it, I would be very grateful.

thanks very much again.

Hi Aulus

I think you will find that the parish reg is held at the museum in Wisbech, and they charge people to look at the reg, I think its £5 per hour. You could try leaving a message on
http://www.wisbech-town.co.uk/
and click on the Wisbech forum
website, as there are a couple of people on there who go to the museum, and do lookups, and I think they can get in for free as part of the local history group

Thanks Ricky,

I'd no idea about that.

Part of me is going "that's outrageous! £5 an hour to look at public records!"

But then another part of me is thinking "well, if that's the only way the museum can survive ..."

Though you wonder why the registers are in a museum and not a records office.

Do you know if this applies to baptism registers too?

Hi Aulus

They used to be in the library till a couple of years ago, but in the end there was'nt enough room to keep everything. So the parish regs were transfered to the museum, and now they charge to look at anything, where as before it was all free at the library. It's a bit of a sore point around here as we pay to keep the museum going anway.
