Anyone know anything about a blacksmith in Abbeyleix by the name of Daniel McCarthy, late 19th century maybe early 20th.  He was my great grandfather.

under the commercial section of 1894 Slaters Directory there is :

Carty John, blacksmith
Carty Joseph, blacksmith

in Abbeyleix

could these be connected to Daniel ?

I'll have a look in the earlier directories and let you know if I find anything more..

thank you all for your kind assistance, the information I have is my grandfather John got married in Limerick 1915 and stated his father was Daniel McCarthy blacksmith.  My mother told me John her father came form Abbeyleix, other than that I don't have any info.

Hi all

I have tracked down my great grandfather thanks to the online 1911 census.  He was a blacksmith in Tullyroe Abbeyleix.  His son William was also a blacksmith and two daughters were there along with his wife Mary.  My grandfather who went as McCarthy was not present.  I believe there was a connetion with a pub in the town.  i notice there is a pub run by Mooney in the market square, but there are Carthys resident there.  Any local historians have any further info?
