My husbands ancestors came from Memel / Prussia now Klaipedia.
Francis Schamburg born approx 1820. His father was Frederick Schamburg /Schaumburg ( a soldier ) as entered on marriage certificate 1848 in Liverpool when Francis Schamburg married.
I was given this site to search for church records but when it comes to reading files in german I am lost.
It may be of interest to those of you who can speak german.

Hi Victoria

Have been carrying out some research. My great grandfather was a Schamburg and the names match your husbands ancestors. Would love to find out if you have any more information about the schamburg line.

BGob, Why am I constantly being told, when trying to access "Gedbas",
that the page cannot be displayed?
Am I doing something wrong?
Regards
Frederick

gedbas:  http://gedbas.genealogy.net/index.jsp

Works fine, but genealogy.net does have server problems now and then
(the german forum is on the same server, so I tend to notice :) )

Both links worked for me. Interesting...

You can put in just the name of a village, etc. I put in my great-great-grandmother's surname and got Maria Katharina Michler born 1904 and died 1800 married and had several children (born between 1750-1900)  ??? The death and birthplaces make sense (near Saarbrucken) but the marriage place in Bayern doesn't  ::)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
