Browns in Gainsborough
« on: Wednesday 24 September 08 22:07 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find relatives of My Gr Gr Granfather Samuel Brown
Samuel was born abt 1828 in Gainsborough
His parents were George Cooper Brown (do not have much on him) and Louisa (have even less on her)

Samuel Married Martha Cocking in 1853 and they had Three Children
Frank (Gr Grandfather), Arthur and Alice
He also Married Frances Iley in 1864 and they Had Ellen

Would like to make contact with anyone who can help me fill in some blanks particularly around George and Louisa

Thanks
Bruce

Samuels siblings:

Louisa c.28.10.1822
Sarah c.06.12.1824

Both listed as daughters of George & Louisa. No Cooper mentioned.

The 1851 census shows them living at Gainsborough..... no George, he had died. There is another daughter Margaret born about 1846 in Hull. There is also a son-in-law George aged 8 and born in Hull. Have not been able to track down a marriage or death for George - possibly he died in Hull? Also, Louisa claims to have come from Kent about 1782. A long way from Lincolnshire in those days.

George Cooper BROWN, baptised 1832 at Gainsborough.
Father: Charles Cooper BROWN. Mother: Hannah

Hi folks thanks for the information

I have found a burial record for a George Cooper Brown in Gainsborough in 1835
See Below
Notes from the burial index
First name(s): George Cooper
Last name: BROWN
Date of burial: 18 Jan 1835
Age at death: 59
Calculated year of birth: 1776
Place of burial: Gainsborough
Dedication: All Saints
County: Lincolnshire
Notes:
Gainsborough All Saints:
Denomination: Anglican

I had Sarah, Samuel and Margaret but not Louisa.
I think George was actually Sarah's Son

Interested where Samuels Sibliings reference is from

thanks for you great info
