Hi Jenn,

Just had a look at David's war record and you are quite right.  The description does look the same.  Both brothers had the name Harvey.

It looks like Joseph Harvey Buckby may have been called David so that there was no confusion in the family.

Harvey James Buckby was killed in action during ww1.  It also looks like most of his brothers served in the war as well

Well,
I don't know about that.
The birth date for David is one year later than Harvey James.
There is a gap in Charlotte's birthing schedule where this might fit.

There is a marriage registered in Qld for Joseph Harvey Buckby.

Hi Sue, I have just had an email back from my cousin in Brisbane  whomis also researching this family.

RE: Joseph Harvey Buckby.

According to Joseph's daughter he changed his name to David to enlist in the war.  Not quite sure why he would do that.

Sue

on the WW1 record he is 19 years and 11 months old in  1914  giving him a birth year of 1894

and perhaps he made himself younger to  join up  in  WW2

kind thoughts Jenn

MMmm....
Well I guess that must be correct then.
I do see that the marriage under the name of Joseph Harvey was to LIZZIE Olive...
On his ww2 papers, he gives NOK as Lizzie, [still using the name DAvid.]

Hi Jenn, Thanks for that.  Quite a few people did that just to get into the war.  I guess you just have to be careful and double check what is written down

There is another possible child we should check out too.

a searcher on worldconnect has listed a Charles Patrick BUCKBY. born 1912 died 1976. Parents same as Newbie's group.

This is a bit of a late date for Charlotte to be producing and as with  many entries on Worldconnect may be quite incorrect.
There were other Charlotte's married to Buckby's at that time too.  Could be a confusion.

The birth of William Charles is on bdm nsw.
3746/1856  BUCKBY  WILLIAM C. father   JAMES mother  ANN at  BRISBANE MORETON BAY.
They were married in 1851.

There is an interesting grouping of births in the name of BUCKBY there.
All in 1856 Fathers George, James and John. All in Moreton Bay

Then  in 1858/9, they all do it again ;D ;D ;D .

The only arrival I can see in the Buckby name was in 1854 per Monsoon and shows John as the possible head of a Buckby group.
