Hi Sue,

This is a very interesting family tree.

This is a little bit of info I have on John BUCKBY

John sailed to Australia on the "Monsoon" arriving 17 August 1854 with Hannah (14), Mary (11), John (14) & David (5) - from NSW Government - Immigrant Index Moreton Bay 1848 - 1859

George, James and William had already emigrated to live in Australia.

They landed in South Australia (as did the family called Carseldine and John's daughter, Mary, later married Jonathon Carseldine).

The Buckby family moved from South Australia to Bald Hills, Queensland in 1856.  John bought 80 acres of land at Nundah in 1859 and more land later in Strathpine and Caboolture.

From 1851 census

1851 Census Transcription - Cranford St. Andrew Page 23 No. of Schedule

Not sure if you have explored the Buckby names on this site.

There are a number at Caboolture

John bought 80 acres of land at Nundah in 1859 and more land later in Strathpine and Caboolture.

The oldest is Richard William who died in 1937 aged 81 "Our Father"
Edith Alma died 1944 at 85 "Our Mother"

As I mentioned before, your James Alfred is on the listings at Ayr.
You may know some of the others too.

I have read this thread with great interest.  I can confirm David Buckby was in fact Joseph Harvey Buckby and did change his name to enlist in the Great War.  He was my grandfather, my father wrote the letter refered to and online at the National Archives.

Buckby Street in Pallarenda, Townsville is named for my great uncle who we called Paddy.
