Christopher Jarvis Madoc but from where ?
« on: Sunday 30 January 05 15:03 GMT (UK) »
I am seeking my Great Great Great Grandfather and his family but do not know where they lived in England prior to emigrating to Canada!  I have no county...nothing to use as a lead! Not sure how to find them!

I have tried FreeBMD and Family Search (LDS) but the dates are too early for their references.   ???

He emigrated from England to Canada in about 1845 with his wife and children.

I can pick the family up in Madoc, Hastings County, Canada beginning in 1851 but have no idea where in ENGLAND they orignated from and how many children they had.  There are alot of Jarvis' in England!!

His name was Christopher Jarvis b. abt 1798
married Margaret Kindale/Kindall/Kinnall??b. abt 1801

Son: James Charles Jarvis b. March 17, 1831 (my Great Great Grandfather)

possible other sons or maybe brothers of Christopher that emigrated with him:

William b. abt.1837
Wheaton/Wharton/Warton  b. abt 1824
Jonah/Joness/Jonas b. abt 1843
Robert b. abt 1837

ANY HELP, ADVISE, THOUGHTS would be appreciated! :)

It has been a year since that post and after digging for this past year I know exactly where the family came from and a whole lot more  :)  I have been working with two other Jarvis' researchers and we have put this family together

If you are interested Tom, you can send me a PM (personal message) to my email here in Montreal and we can share on these Jarvis'

Hi  I'm also looking for information on the Jarvis family of Madoc, Hastings Co, Ontario. My husband's grandfather was Walter Jarvis born in Hastings county, Ontario. We know he had a brother Peter who died in a mining accident at the Bannackburn mine. Peter and Walter's  father was listed as William Jarvis. We think William came from England. Looking for any help in tracking this families history. Carolyn

Well HI there Carolyn   ;D

Where exactly in this global village are you located?

Yes indeed I have been doing this family for YEARS!!  Now, I have Peter Jarvis and his Dad was William Jarvis and  Mom was Rachel Brownson all in the Madoc area.   However the children I have for William and Rachel do not include a "Walter" ... But now, that does not mean he does not fit, likely he does!!

The Jarvis' were notorious for changing their Christian names a bit!!  Perhaps he was their son James WHARTON  b. 1869 or they had a son Christopher b. 1861 that I don't have a middle name for born 1861??  You see the name Wharton was often changed to Walter by those in the family that had it!!  Also, they often went by their middle names.

Peter Thomas died in 1906.

I would love to chat with you.  You can send me a PM (personal Message)  you type on my name in the left "LUV" and that takes you to my personal file where you will see, at the bottom "send this member a personal message"  type on send member a personal Message.  And you did it the same as posting here... you can give me your email if you like or not...whichever you are comfortable with...
