Its puzzles like these that make researching so interesting, I had quite a day at the mitchel today as the relation I was looking for of my own in the poor law revealed that she was in & out of prison most of her life and her husband has been sentenced to 10yrs!!.

As for the name its possible it could hae been a alternative as I have seen Farrell used as Farle & Fairley. Also I have a Quigley listed as Tweedle which seemingly was a common thing.

1 wee bit which I have just noticed that I missed out is the girls were sent to thier aunts at 2 Napier Gardens Govan so a census look up for that address might reveal her identity. Once the photocopies come through I think you may get some more valuable information.

In 1881 the girls were at 3 Napier St. with Isabella Tainsh. They must have gone to their aunts shortly after this.

Who did Mary Marry?

It certainly does look like Granny's sister, Another clue might be the witness, was it a name of any of the people in the household from the census?

On Mary's birh record her Mother is listed as Mary Cleland but I still wouldnt rule out the fact that your looking in the right direction.

If you pm me your email I'll send you the image file of that record.
