Jimmy, that is fascinating as this is a story I have pursued for some time and not got any sort of confirmation .  The account differs slightly but that is always possible with perceived memory. If this is the correct brother, then yes it's my Nan's brother. Do you have any more details of this event - dates, why etc.
I have to admit that tracing family in Tullamore is possibly the hardest in the country !! I have not been able to locate the family on the 1911 census but from what you Mother said, they are connected with the family in tea lane.

my mother was a first cousin of the cunninghams if we are right marys mother and my mothers
mother were sisters my mothers name was margaret [maddie] bracken they lived at 22tea lane
the cunninghams lived at number 12

Jimmy , If I am right Marys mother was Bridget byrne of ballyduff, tullamore who married Peter Cunningham in 1899. Does this tally up? There is clearly a connect because of the killing and tullamore Cunninghams - i think in 1901 they are in quarry view?

Hi Jack, Good info for the file - sadly i am really struggling with Peter Cunningham and im hanging my hopes on the 1901!! as i cannot find a solid lead (other than pay 150 Euro for it)

Hi Marc,
i may have some interesting information for you.  My mother is a Cunningham orginially from Tea Lane, Tullamore.  Her uncle Patrick was excuted on 26th January, 1923.  A memorial was erected at Birr Castle.  I have photo of this memorial which I will try to post.  My mum also has copy of his final letter which he wrote to his mother (my mums grandmother).  Hope this info is of help to you.

That's great information and i would be fascinated to find out a little more about how your Grandad was related to my Great grand father, Peter? I have found them on the 1901 census in the Quarries but they seem to have disappeared by 1911 - My instinct is that Peter Cunningham died between the two census and i am awaiting a cert from the GRO.

My Nan told the story of the loss of a 'brother' i am wondering if it was a brother or a cousin.  The 1901 has confused matters because there there are two Peter Cunninghams !! but i am sure based on marriage certs etc that the quarries family is correct.

I would be delighted if you have any additional info to share as it may help clarify information that i have been after for years - I will PM you with my email address
