Seeking Sarah A Calvert
« on: Tuesday 30 September 08 18:09 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am trying to trace my wife's paternal grandmother and her family. Sarah A. Calvert married Thomas Redmayne in Blackburn in 1911, but so far I have been unable to trace her birth or her parents and siblings.

Is anyone else doing this family? Can anyone provide any information.

Any help, however small, greatly appreciated.
Lancashire: Platt, Peckett, Gradwell, Garlick, Roscoe, Redmayne, Calvert, Jagger
Cheshire: Roscoe, Edge
Yorkshire: Jagger

E.M. - do you have the marriage certificate? If so what does it reveal about her age, address, father's name and occupation, names of witnesses?

Per Lancashire BMD she was Sarah Alice Calvert and she married  Thomas Redmayne at  the church of St Leonard, Balderston.

Order the marriage certificate - it will give you both father's names and occupations. You could then check the 1901 census and see if you have a match. Maybe this one....

1901 Census - RG13; Piece: 3903; Folio: 61; Page: 3

John Calvert 55  Head - Balderstone, Lancashire - Farmer
Margaret Emily Calvert 50 Wife - Balderstone, Lancashire
Jonathan Calvert 24 Son - Balderstone, Lancashire - Gardener domestic
John Calvert 22 Son - Balderstone, Lancashire - Farmer's son
Margaret Emily Calvert 18 Daug - Balderstone, Lancashire Farmer's daughter
Edward Calvert 14  Son - Balderstone, Lancashire - Farmer's son
Sarah Alice Calvert 11 Daug - Balderstone, Lancashire

This matches the ShaunJ's post

I think that's the best thing to do - there are several Thomas Redmayne's about the same age so it will help you narrow him down too.

Hi Laurina,

Many thanks for your help and I hope you don't mind if I ask you a further question.

When you posted the 1891 and 1901 extracts, the 1891 entry shows their address at the time but the 1901 doesn't. Is that because it was not shown on the record?

If it is shown, could you please let me know it.

Many thanks,
