New Moderators
« on: Wednesday 01 October 08 07:46 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

There have been some posts mentioning new Moderators - but as they seem to have been on specific country/county/other boards, or on The Lighter Side ???, or even on Totally Off Topic ???, they might very well have been missed by RootsChatters who are interested but who don't frequently visit any of those boards  ;D

I'm sure that most RootsChatters would appreciate it if Admin would post a list of all the Global Moderators and of all other Moderators (and explain the difference, and the specialisations of those who aren't global).

Many thanks in advance.

A couple of relevant recent threads are:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,330067
(mentions aghadowey, dawnsh and KarenM)

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,330521
(mentions dawnsh and Valda)

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,331125
(mentions Valda)

And, not wanting to scare new Mods, but the following might be a helpful alert:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,330508
(that thread seems to have been deleted - a shame, in my view, as there were quite a number of very thoughtful posts on it)
and an earlier thread at:

All the very best to the newbie Mods,

JAP

JAP - whilst I support your intentions, can I respectfully suggest that what you are trying to achieve is (in legalese):-

vapulus a mortuus equus

Newf,

Your personal interpretation and your opinion!

To which you are obviously entitled.
Each to her/his own  :)

Were your interpretation and opinion correct in this instance - and I would respectfully suggest that it is not remotely the case - I might point out that flogging apparently dead horses is not always a bad thing.  After all, it is precisely how so many of us have finally managed to trace our own roots, and have helped other RootsChatters to trace theirs.  ;D

Kind regards,

JAP
PS: I presume you were referring to flogging dead horses?  As I did only one year of Latin, and that when I was 11yo - a very very considerable time ago - I can't be sure.

JAP

In my opinion, the mods do a great job, and I am happy with how they proceed.  I think they should be allowed to get on with it.

I do not think that Rootschat moderation needs changing or improving.

It appears to me that you have been upset, for which I am sorry, but I do not think that persisting as you are will ever make things "right" for you.  Have you thought how the mods, all volunteers, must feel about your continuing attacks?

I do not suppose you will take any advice from anyone, but I do suggest you leave it alone.

Hi JAP

Sorry I hold my hands up high, I deleted the youtube posting before I saw this yesterday  :(

You have asked a simple question yet again you come under attack.

Just read another posting complaining the chat forum should have a open and closing time because it slows the rest of Rootschat down "nothing to do with me" might I say.

It would be a fantastic idea if the Mods would let us mushrooms know what is going on.

Here is an idea - I will PM trystan with it as well

Could we have a new forum called "Mod News or Mod Message Board" and locked so us mushrooms cannnot reply. This room announcements could be made not just about new mods, how they get picked, systems problems/issues and/or anything they deem important to it's members.

I think this would reduce the amount of postings like JAP who just wants to know whose who and system problem message with 50 un-needed replies.

Should a member have a general rootschat question, they PM a Mod from the list in the Mods Forum and then hopefully the answer will appear in Mods News asap. Issue finished, and maybe we will stop having a go at each other.

Comments like pjbuk007 left
"I do not suppose you will take any advice from anyone, but I do suggest you leave it alone"
will only inflame the poster "I do suggest" would really get my goat, and put me in battle mode "suggest or what I would say"

Each and every member of rootschat are different, some live in a cotton candy world and others live in the real hard tough world.

A Mods News Forum would and should defuse any situation before it's even been typed, but should a person still wish to post a question in the normal way - so be it

This is a good idea - a locked section up near the top of the main menu where moderators or administrators could post messages of general interest.  Perhaps when there is an issue of forum slowdown or database maintenance and repair a message could also be placed on the page where postcards are solicited [IŽll try to remember to send one] so that people who have experienced trouble connecting to RC will know that the problem is being addressed.  This might cut down on chains of unhelpful posts about spanners and rubber bands.

This is something that was proposed by the Mods some time ago but we haven't yet got the wherewithal to put it in place.

I don't know whether it is feasible to change the "postcards" message though.

Meanwhile we will do our best to communicate about operational issues on the main boards.

I totally agree with you.  Maybe highlighted in a different colour so it stands out ..... that way members can't say "I didn't see it" and start another topic of war on RC.

Cheers

Hi All,

My suggestion was pretty straightforward.  I'll just repeat it.

...

I'm sure that most RootsChatters would appreciate it if Admin would post a list of all the Global Moderators and of all other Moderators (and explain the difference, and the specialisations of those who aren't global).

Many thanks in advance.  ...

...  All the very best to the newbie Mods

Pending any systemic changes (e.g. a Mods Message Board), couldn't the list and explanation be posted on this thread?  ;D

Regards,

JAP
