I have Martin's from Nottingham in my family tree, although not sure if anyone can help me in this regard.

I have Mary Ann Martin, born in Nottingham abt 1830 marrying Thomas Fox at St Mary's, Nottingham, on 16 July 1854.  The marriage certificate indicates her father was William Martin who was a Tailor.  I have her on the 1861 census where she indicates she was born in Nottingham and her age to be 31, giving her a birth year of around 1830.  Unfortunately i can find no christening records or other census records to match.  She died in Mar Q 1867 in Southwell, Nottingham.

Can anyone help with any further information concerning her family or earlier records?

Thanks in advance.

TB

Hello TB… :)

Baptism at Nottingham St Mary - 25th October 1829
MARY ANN MARTIN – father William, mother Elizabeth – fathers occupation Tailor; abode Milton St.

There are a few other baptism’s with parents as William & Elizabeth but none with abode as Milton St or occupation as Tailor.

Sheila.

Sheila

Ever helpful as concerns my Nottingham requests!  Thank-you!

Do you have a marriage date for William and Elizabeth or details of any other siblings?

I would also like to find them on the 1841 and 1851 Census.

Thanks for your assistance this is gratefully appreciated.

TB

Not sure about a marriage for William & Elizabeth but here is a start…

1841 – H0.107/870/1/25 – Milton St, Nottingham
William Martin, aged 35, Tailor, born in county = NO
Elizabeth Martin, aged 50, born in county = NO
Mary Martin, aged 11, born in county = YES

Thanks again Sheila

Could not find that for looking!  Wonder if they are still in Milton Street in 1851 - can't see any obvious listing though.

Interesting to see that they were both not born in County - could make it difficult to trace them!  Not sure how.  Perhaps his trade might help - would Nottingham trade directories for the time give any pointers?

I haven’t had much success in tracking them down after the 1841 census….did find this but anyone’s guess if it is William;

This could be a red herring?
1851 – H0.107/2132/646  - 2,Cur Lane, Nottingham St Mary = (in the household of Thomas Webster)
William Martin, lodger, Un, aged 50, Tailor, born Newark, Notts.

If you would like to check the 1851 for who is on Milton St - this link is very useful and could help =

I have looked at the link and it appears i need to check HO 107/2132/73-75.  Cannot see any obvious Martin's there sadly.

I also note that William Martin appears to have been born in Foreign parts - is this someone else from France.......

I have just stumbled across your queries regarding the Martin family. I am a relative the great grandson of robert     ignatius Martin  and Elizabeth Baines so I am also connected to the Niutt,Cresswell and Murdoch families. I would be interested in exchanging info.
