Ritchie Family - Perthshire
« on: Sunday 05 October 08 16:23 BST (UK) »
Hi, Can anyone help us ????

I have researched back to the following persons on my family tree and I have hit a bit of a stop. Can anyone help? I have listed as much as I know....

James Ritchie married to Janet Taylor 21 Jun 1795 Muthill Perth

They had the following children:-

Robert Ritchie (b.21/03/1786 Dunblane) (d 14/04/1856 Fossoway)
William Ritchie (b.20/11/1789 Dunblane) (d 05/02/1862 Dunfermline)
James Ritchie (b.20/04/1792 Dunblane) (d 18/10/1856 Fossoway)
Peter Ritchie (b.11/11/1794 Dunblane) (d ???)
Archibald Ritchie (b. ??? Dunblane) (d 22/11/1878 Blackford)
Helen Ritchie (b.06/01/1800 Dunblane) (d 07/03/1867 Blackford)
Malcolm Ritchie (b.24/11/1802 Dunblane) (d 17/11/1877 Blackford)
David Ritchie (b.25/05/1806 Dunblane) (d 21/04/1886 fossoway)
??? Ritchie (b ???) d ???)

I have a doubt that Janet Taylor is the mother of all of these children as James and Janet only marry in 1795 after the birth of the first 5 children.

I would like to find more info on both James and Janet (The Parents) Could anyone suggest where I could look. I have looked through the south Perthshire monumental inscriptions but have drawn a blank. I do have more information on the chirldren that is not listed here.

Please help !!!

Regards

Angus PS-- I am descended from the child Malcolm

Hi Angus.
I hope you may still be interested and involved after six years.  I believe I am descended from James Ritchie (b.20/04/1792 Dunblane) (d.18/10/1856 Fossoway) and would like to exchange information, as I am having great difficulty sorting out his wives (?) and children.
Hope you are still able to help
Regards

Hello, I don't know if I can help you, if you are still interested after all this time, but you might be able to help me. I have tracked my family back to John Ritchie from Perth, Scotland, who has a birth around 1780ish? That is as far as I have got. Could this be the same Ritchie family? Trying to figure out my family from back in Scotland. They moved from there to Torbolton, Ontario, Canada. Which is what I have tracked them too so far. Thank you for all the help in advance!

Hi Mike, welcome to Rootschat  ;)

Do you have a passenger list with date of migration?
John b c1780...where/when/who did he marry (with maiden name from the births of their children)?
Can you name the children in order/where born/middle names as the naming pattern may help?
Are there any clues to a place in Perthshire which may help as it's a big place?

Hello Annie,

I'm still in the early stages of trying to track down information, so I don't have much on the immigration other than he ended up in Torbolton, Ontario. I'm 85%-90% it's the right John Ritchie that I found on Ancestry. I believe he was married to Catherine (Katherine?) Baird in Dron, Perth on April 3, 1809. She was born in Dunning, Perth on March 6, 1783. I'm about 95% sure that one of my relatives is who I believe is there son is Daniel Ritchie who was born in 1819. I think Daniel was born in Scotland? Not 100% sure though.

Thank you for any information you can provide or steer me in the right direction!

Were there other children or was Daniel an only child?
If he had siblings can you give names in order/birth yrs?

It doesn't matter where the children were born for the naming pattern but very handy for looking for their baptisms.

Have you found any of them in census returns/marriages/deaths etc?

It's best you confirm as much as you can on the Atlantic side prior to moving back to Scotland

I will have to look a little harder into it to see if I can find a census with Daniel and his siblings in it. So far I have only seen ones that has Daniel as the father and all of his children. Thank you for the information though! It is helpful and definitely points me in the right direction!

Only child I can find in Dron;
JOHN Ritchie christened 19 Mar 1811, Dron, Perthshire, Father JOHN

Aaah,
DANIEL BLAIR Ritchie christened 21 Dec 1819 Orwell, Kinross, Scotland
Parents John RITCHIE and Catherine BAIRD

Both on Familysearch.Org.

I cant pin down any other obvious children 1812-1818.
They may have moved around a lot.

Trish :)
