CANNINGS / WILLIS Census LookUps 1851-1871
« on: Sunday 05 October 08 18:25 BST (UK) »
Hello All,

I have a James Cannings christened 19th June 1864 in Winterbourne, Wilts.

Could someone please look him up in the 1871 census. I am keen to confirm that his parents were Charles Cannings and Rebecca Willis.

If this is so, it would be great to trace Charles and Rebecca back in the 1861 and 1851 census, as to know who their parents and siblings were.

I hope that someone can help.

Many thanks,

David  :)

Many thanks Geoff,

Have to look at what a Carter was, unless it is straightforward as someone that makes carts !

If anyone can assist with finding Charles Cannings in 1851 and Rebekah
/Rebecca Willis also in 1851, it would be much appreciated.

Best wishes and thanks,

David :D

Hi David and Jane,

They both do state Milford in 1861 and 1871 but like Jane I can see nothing to fit.

Coate is a hamlet in Bishops Canning and is listed among the missing in 1841, that is why you couldn't find it Jane.  :'(

There is however another possibility aged 9 in 1841

1841 is Free Online

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,318079.0.html

for the above entry please see

http://www.pope-genealogy.me.uk/nwocp_1841census.htm#salisbury

You will find this one at HO/1190 Book 4

1851 at same place we have

HO107/1847 Folio 291 Page 19
Culver St
Salisbury St Martin

HATCH Thomas Head 86 Widow b Dorset Pauper wagoner
WILLIS Sarah Dau 51 Widow b Salisbury Char Woman
WILLIS Elizabeth Granddaughter 30 Unm b Salisbury Char Woman
WILLIS Rebecca Granddaughter 18 Unm b Salisbury House Servant

I think the Bishops Cannings girl married Thomas PERRY in 1859 Devizes which would be correct parrish for Bishops Cannings. Age and pob for Rebecca Perry in 1861 look good also.

I think you will need the marriage cert for father details, particularly as nothing is showing for Milford for either one of them.

you can have a good look about Milford in 1841 if you wish, plenty of Willis families about but no Cannings.

http://www.pope-genealogy.me.uk/41186.html#bk18

With a Salisbury marriage this looks like the dau of William and Sarah to me.

Charles CANNINGS = Rebecca WILLIS Sep 1/4 1857 Salisbury 5a 329

Cheers Kris  :D
