Actually it was the information on John I was speaking about ... ;D Was he noted as deceased on James' marriage certificate?

Hi both  :)

I'm starting to wonder if this was an illegitimate birth and James is registered as something else in Westruther.

Have we searched the 1861 for any Weatherston(e)s in the area?

hi Gadget

I have looked on the 1861 Scotland census for the area and not found anything conclusive.  The families I've found on Family Search with the father John Weatherson and its variations come up on the census.

I would appreciate a fresh pair of eyes to look at the census of 1861 to see if you come up with anything

This is my g g grandfather too.  On the 1911 census James gives his birth place as sibastipol, berwickshire.  At first we thought it read devonshire but on closer inspection it definitely says berwickshire.  And he says he is scotch.  Googling i have found no such place as sibastipol in berwickshire!! Not sure about the standard of policing in 1880's - 1900 but not sure if he has made it up!! Another work colleague said he might have something to do with the crimean war possibly baby of a soldier?!! Clutching at straws here!! Can anyone help in the chase for the elusive James Weatherston!!
