I would be really pleased if someone could look up the obituary in the Chronicle on 27 Sep 1901 for my great grandmother, Margaret Lovegreen, Sidegate, Durham.

Lovegreen_ Durham, Sidegate, 25th inst., aged 84, Margaret, widow of the late Robert Lovegreen. Interment at St Margaret's, 26th inst., at 5.30p.m.;leave residence at 5 o'clock.

Hi Moni ,I am not sure if you are interested or allready have this information on robert lovegreen and margaret lovegreen nee richardson ,I had found a photo of robert and margaret in a durham book ,which has a caption robert lovegreen shoemaker and his wife margaret 2 millburngate former house was 13 lovegreen street sidegate said to have once operated the ferry between sidegate sands ,photographed by w wilkinson north road

Thanks very much for the information. I have the photo you mention of Robert Lovegreen and his wife Margaret (my gg grandparents). Robert Lovegreen did indeed start the ferry across the River Wear from Framwellgate Waterside to the Sands in 1866, and many years later my grandmother was ferrywoman for a while.

The steps down to the ferry still exist, and it is commemorated by the Pennyferry footbridge, opened in 2002 a short distance away from the original crossing.

We have a small happy band of Lovegreen descendents (I know you also are connected), and we're always glad to find new information and contacts.
