Major Darcy Mackenzie Fraser was killed in action 1915 and his name is on the first World War Memorial at Merchiston Castle School Edinborough. So its possible that Darcy was born in Scotland.Any help with this one greatly appreciated. :)gereon.

The Times, Tuesday 7th Aug 1917
In Memoriam
HASTINGS-FRASER
In proud and most loving memory of CAPTAIN D'ARCY FRASER, Indian Army attached Licoln Regiment, killed in action at Suvia Bay, on the 7th August 1915 and his brother CAPTAIN DAVID FRASER, 1st Cameronians (Scottish Rifles), who died in India, 12th January 1912, sons of the late Lieut-General Hastngs Fraser C.B., Indian Army, of Ardachie, Fort Augustus N.B, and Mrs Hastings Fraser.

If you google "Hastings Fraser" a lot comes up, looks like he was a bit of an author, and his ftaher was probably same name, also Indian Army of note.

Cheers

Hi,many thanks for such an awesome response.Suzard, yes thats correct,Darcy was married in1904 and he applied for a divorce in 1905.The Indian nationality had me going for a moment,so thanks AMBLY for making it all clear with your 1891 Scottish Census. Thanks also CaroleW for your help especially with the location of Darcys widow Esther Watson in Ireland.I wonder if Esther stayed in Ireland and if there were children to the marriage?Would there have been a Times obituary I wonder.Again thanks for the information sent with such speed. :)gereon.

Hi gereon

You're welcome  ;D
Here's a few more fo the file - looks like Charlotte placed notices each year between 1917 and 1921 (except I couldn't see one for 1918)  on the anniversary of D'arcy's death to commemorate both sons, before she herself died in March 1922.

The Times Thursday 22 Jun 1899
DEATHS
On the 19th last, at the residence of his brother, 89 Drayton-Gardens, South Kensington, FRANCIS ROSE FRASER, of the Indian Postal Dept., so of the late General Hastings Fraser, formerley of Ardachie, in his 34th year. Indian papers, please copy.
Since other notices refer to D'arcy and david as only sons of Hastings and Charlotte, I imagine this son must be from a first marriage of Hastings?

The Times Wednesday 8 May 1912
COURT CIRCULAR
Mrs Hastings Fraser and her son, Captain D'Arcy Fraser, have returned from India and wish to thank all their friends for their kind sympathy in their loss. Letters will be forwarded by Messrs Cox & Co., 16 Charing Cross S.W., as Mrs Hastings Fraser has given up her flat and club in town.

The Times Thursday 8 November 1917
COURT CIRCULAR
The King has granted a suite of apartments at Hampton Court Palace to Mrs Hastings Fraser, widow of Lieutenant-General Hastings Fraser C.B., of Ardachie, Fort Augustus.

The Times Thursday 7 Aug 1919

Sempiturnus.

The Times Wednesday 15th March 1922
DEATHS - HASTINGS FRASER
On 13th March at Hampton Court Palace, CHARLOTTE ELIZABETH MACKENZIE HASTINGS FRASER, widow of Lieut-General Hastings Fraser C.B., Indian Army, of Ardachie, Fort Augustus, N.B., and youngest daughter of the late David James Smeaton, of Abbey Park, St Andrews, N.B. No Flowers, by request.

The Times Thursday 20th April 1922
DEATHS - WALLACE
On the 12th April, JANE WALLACE, faithful friend and servant for nearly 50 years in the family of the late Mrs Hastings Fraser, of Hampton Court Palace.
(How poignant - she must have been abt 84, if she was 53 in 1891. And she died a month after her friend  and mistress)
