Photo date please

Can anyone help date this photo please? It's either Grt Grt Granny born 1850 or previous generation born about 1817.

Hello John & welcome to RootsChat & the Resto. board.
There's little in this photo to give an accurate date.
The lady looks to be in her 20's & the style could be 1870's -80's.
So not the one b.1817 for sure.
Do you have the original & can you show us all of the card plus reverse side
as this gives us more information for dating.

Yep, ditto what Jim said. The scans need not be large or high-resolution, but please include the outside corners of the backing.

The photo it'sself is matte and seems to me to be 'blacker' than the normal sepia photos I've seen. The cardboard backing has lost the top two corners but the bottom ones are rounded. There is a slightly embossed frame around the area on which the photo is stuck with the photographers name indented below. This is very hard to read but looks like it could be 'L H Greenway Northampton & Bedford. There is the remains of some paper that was stuck onto this card.

There is writing on the reverse in pencil that looks like '1 1/2 8p Oak & 8p 4 photos'.

My grt Grandmother Harriett was born in 1850 in Northampton and was married in 1868.

sorry -computer problems - I have an error message saying I'm trying to upload the same file name twice (I'm not by the way- have renamed it anyway but same error message) - not much to see on the revese though - colour same as front with indented frame to coincide with embossed frame on front

I would say about 1890. Just an educated guess.
Cleaned it up a bit.

I think this is S H Greenway for anyone looking.

Samuel Greenway was in Gloucs. in 1891 cen.In 1897 Kelly's he is listed as Greenway Bros. still in Gloucs.1901 cen. has him in Northants (where he has a 2 yo daughter born Gloucs.) and first appears there in 1903 Kelly's under his own name.So this can only be 1900 or later.Doesn't look it does it.
