you're welcome.

Yes I liked at the end of the 1st one how they seem more worried about the state of the ship  ::)

(They didn't even get my ggg-grandfathers name right in their first report! and if I remember rightly he's simply 'a labourer named Brown' when they actually managed to get it right  >:()

There must be a report in archives somewhere, maybe if you find out who owned the King George V?  Or would it be the Clyde Port Authority?

It was Turbine Steamers Ltd (1901 - 1935) who owned the ship. See this page: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/tramways/KingGeorgeV.htm

"Trouble with the boilers led to replacement in 1929 and again in 1935". ::)

I have been looking on google and found a couple of articles about the ship and the turbines were quite new then I think that might have been the first ship with the new type, it says the water heated up to 750 degrees, what agony those two men must have gone through.

I also read that the ship cost £69,000 and the first trial trip was on 7th september 1927 so my grandmothers brother had only been on it for a few weeks.

I agree its shocking that they seemed more concerned about the ship than the men killed.

hi I just wanted to say thanks to hume24 and Lora [damnonii] for their help in tracing my grandmothers brother, James Bryson, I have contacted various members of the family and none of them knew about this tragedy.  Even my uncles [children of my grandmother] were unaware of this.  So sad.

Thanks for all  your help
Diana

Hi

I have recently been looking into my family history and came across your post.  I have found out that the James Alexander Bryson you have posted your comments about is my Great Grandad.  I would be interested in the additional information you have regarding the family if that is possible.

Thanks

Could this be James jnr in the 1881 Census?

1881 Census- 66 Dumfrochar Rd, West Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland
James BRYSON, married, 26, Ireland, Sugarhouse Lab
wife Ellen BRYSON, married, 25, Linlithgow, Linlithgow, Scotland
dau. Ellen BRYSON, 6, Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland
son James BRYSON, 4, Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland
son William BRYSON, 1, Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland

The name of the street is Drumfrochar Road (with an r) which is in the Broomhill district

There is another family of Irish Bryson living in the same Tenement, could be related.

1881 Census- 66 Dumfrochar Rd, West Greenock, Renfrew, Scotland

Hi,
My dad is called James Bryson and he was born in Watt St and he is James Alexander Bryson's Grandson.  He has been googling and has come across this thread and has discovered that his Grandad James Alexander was in fact married twice...he never knew this...  He really wants to find out about his Grandads child Helen Mcalpine Bryson. He wants to know about her life after her mother died.  Did she stay with James Alexander or what happened to her?

My dad, James Bryson who is after this information now lives in Bristol.  His laptop broke down last night as he was reading all the comments so he asked if i could try and get him some info and pass on his number for anyone to call him who knows anything.... or you can reply to me...

Thank you

Lucy x

That might not be a good idea, posting a personal phone number on a public forum.
