An impossible request
« on: Wednesday 15 October 08 21:59 BST (UK) »
Harry Jesse Cleal (born 1908, Tewkesbury) sailed from Southampton to Halifax, Nova Scotia on the 'Ausonia'. He departed England on 6th April 1929 and arrived in Canada on 12th April 1929.

Most people would be satisfied with that.
However....

I know that he returned to England very soon as he married in the July/August/September quarter 1929 in Tewkesbury. Legend has it that he failed at whatever he did and had to work his passage home.
Is there any way of finding out what he did in Canada and when he returned to England?
(Unfortunately he died not long after his return).

Any suggestions gratefully accepted

Thanks a lot Helena. That adds to my information and more than I expected. I was surprised to find out that he was an ironmonger as his parents ran a greengrocer's shop. I am even more surprised to find out that he intended to be a farmer. He worked at an aircraft factory on his return to England. Kathleen was his wife.

Hello

My great grandmother emigrated to Canada with her family in 1895. I have been told that they bought some land before they went - but when they got there they had been scammed...just an idea.

Hi,

Just a bit concerned I've found the man you want as you have a marriage for  him in 1929.   Do you have the certificate for that?
