Thomas CROTHERS & Rebecca MURPHY of Belfast b 1880s
« on: Thursday 16 October 08 15:06 BST (UK) »
I have given my brother’s family a detailed family tree of our English/Scottish roots and would like to balance it by showing my nephews more of their Irish roots.

Can anyone help with information about the ancestry of this family in N. Ireland? My SIL’s father knows very little of his grandparents and nothing about his great grandparents. He came to Canada as a teen from Belfast with his family in the late 1940’s. I understand there was a marriage that was not acceptable to the families with regard to religion.

Thank you in advance for any resources or details you can add to Crothers, Murphy, Wright or Morgan families circa 1850.

Kate  :)

The following is the only information he remembers:

Thomas CROTHERS married Rebecca MURPHY abt 1908, daughter of unknown MURPHY possibly in Belfast.

Children of Thomas CROTHERS and Rebecca MURPHY are:

Going through old posts to see if they've been completed and noticed this once. In the last few months there've been new (free) Irish resources put online.

1911 Census for Co. Antrim here:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search

Thomas Crothers (25), wife Rebecca (age 22, married 3 years, 2 children 1 living), son Johnston (2) living at Little York St.

George Wright (40), wife Catherine (31, married 7 years, 5 children 3 living), Jane (6), Mary (4), Margaret (3) living at Great George's Street.

The Index to Irish Civil Registrations is also available:
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails;t=searchable;c=1408347

If you've gotten the information you were looking for please modify your 1st post on this thread by adding the word COMPLETED in the tile so I can move it to Completed Lookup Requests.

Best wishes, aghadowey

Hi, I have just found this thread and can provide more information. I have been researching the Crothers family in Belfast over the weekend and can establish that Thomas Crothers was one of at least thirteen children - his brother John married my great grandmother's cousin, they all shared a house.

The 1901 census has recently went online and Thomas can be found on that living with his parents and some of his siblings at Vere Street. His parents were Johnston Crothers, an iron moulder and Maggie Tully.

If you want to get in contact I would be more than happy to provide the other info I hold on this family.

Best wishes,

Martin
