Hi again  ;D

I noticed daughter Isabella age 22 in 1851,  is not with them in 1841 age abt 12.
And daughter Ann age 6 in 1841, is not with them in 1851 age abt 16.

This might be Isabella in 1841 - the way the Census is written up (the // and / marks) indicates she was not a daughter of couple in whose dwelling she was. But she is probably a relative, especially considering your William and Margaret next child born after 1841 Census  was a girl they named "Eleanor"....

1841:  Hebburn Cottage - Township of Jarrow, South Sheilds, Durham
HO107/ Piece 297 /  Book: 11 /  Folio: - Page: 1
//
Tho's ENGLISH 35, Cl. - Y
Eleanor ENGLISH 35 - Y
/
Isabella ENGLISH 12, F.S. - Y
//

Cheers

They're making me crosseyed just thinking of how Margaret would have coped, Jean!
Aberdein - doesn't bear thinking about all the potential  kid's kids!
Just 2 and 10 years apart (ably assissted by  sliced bread, dispoables and electric washing machine) was enough for me  ;D  ;D

And  I think I overlooked mention of  wee  Mary, age 5 in the 1841 who is not with them in 1851 either, age abt 15.

Hi Ambly.I`m in need of a little help. I`ve just taken out a subscription to Ancestry and have just had my first look at it I can see William English in 1851 but not 1841 in spite of entering all the relevant information. I get people from all over not just Durham. Am I doing something wrong

Hi Aberdein

On the search form - leave everything blank

except:
Just fill in the Piece nr, the Book Number and the page number which I provided.
Enter nothing in the Folio box - there is no Folio number in this case.

They will be on the the single page of results (23 people).
They appear as ENGLIS but the image does show there is an "h" on the end.

Some tips:
Sometimes less is more....I initially found them by eventually searching for
Eliz*  ENG" -  born 1838 +/- 2yrs - residing  in County:Durham and Civil Parish: Jarrow

I chose a very young child to seacrh on  because: in they are more likely to have their 'proper age" recorded, and particularly so in the 1841 where ages for those 15+ was supposed to be rounded. (This was also why we needed to know more about the 1851 first and establish facts of  any  children who may have been with them in 1841, where they would have been born and when).

Have fun with the sub  and happy searching ;D  ;D  ;D

Cheers
