I have also found an ancestor who died as an 'inmate' of Nazareth House - in 1901.  I am trying to find out what sort of place it was then.  My relative's brother was priest at Holy Trinity church in Newark and I get a sense that Nazareth House was a sort of nursing home run by Catholic nuns?

Any help anyone.  I have been unsuccessful in emailing Pauline Wroe of the local history group.

Hi Carol,

Welcome to Rootschat!

I think you have hit the nail on the head, I think the house was a precursor to the National Health hospital.

It is worth looking at some of the links that others others have suggested, all very interesting.

Best wishes,
