I am trying to find either a burial or cremation record for my Grandmother's sister, Elizabeth Paterson Menzies. I was recently in Scotland and contacted the Crematorium records office who unfortunately weren't able to help me, although I am not convinced they don't have a record!
I eventually ran out of time in my search and got completely lost as well so didn't end up finding what I was looking for! I did however, find the place where Elizabeth lived before her death which was Kiln Court in Irvine.
Elizabeth died 19th May 1979 in Ayrshire Central Hospital, Kilwinning. I went to the hospital who told me that all patient records are now held at Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock. Unfortunately they notified me that they only hold records for 6 years after date of death. Elizabeth's solicitor Robert Duff was the informant of her death and I have just sent a letter to that company which seems to still exist in Largs to see if they still hold any records.
My grandmother came to Australia in 1926 and seemingly didn't keep any contact with Elizabeth. The last known fact was that she was still in Glasgow in 1920 at 100 Bothwell St. So 50 + years of her life are missing and I am anxious to find out anything. Elizabeth never married and didn't appear to have any close relatives while living in Irvine.
Her birth name was Elizabeth Martin but she changed to Menzies when her mother remarried. Her parents were Robert Menzies and Mary Martin (nee McDonald).
If anyone would be able to help me with any information or suggestions I would be forever grateful!
